I'm Myles Forsyth. I have been self employed pretty well all of my working life. I've built a number of businesses with a 120 employees over four different locations.
All my previous business have been bricks and mortar investments with high overheads.
Fourteen years ago I changed direction dramatically with my main goal being to create time freedom. I now work totally online and will never return to traditional business.
Generating pocket money has never been my goal.
1️⃣ Quality Products
Have quality, established products so you’re not continually chasing the latest trend or short-term fad.
2️⃣ Multiple Income Streams
Ensure there are multiple income streams.
If income is earned only from direct sales, you may simply be operating as a commissioned salesperson.
3️⃣ No Profit Share Model
As a business owner, you should be paid upfront and retain your own profit — not share it across layers.
4️⃣ Higher Ticket Positioning
The effort required to generate a $50 sale is often similar to generating a $5,000 sale.
Consider whether the model supports meaningful transaction values.
5️⃣ Time Freedom & Global Reach
If time flexibility matters to you, look for a global 24/7 business model that allows you to operate full-time or part-time, in a time zone that suits your lifestyle.
6️⃣ No Reliance on Friends & Family
You should not be required to tap into an existing personal network.
Customers and leads should be able to find and contact you directly.
7️⃣ Avoid Becoming Your Own Best Customer
Ensure you are not required to continually purchase product simply to retain qualification or status.
8️⃣ Accessible Mentorship
Will your trainer or mentor provide direct contact details?
Are they likely to still be active and supporting you years from now?
9️⃣ Credible Leadership
Is your mentor a genuinely successful entrepreneur or business owner in their own right?
🔟 Structured Training
Training should be suitable for complete beginners and delivered in a clear, logical progression.
1️⃣1️⃣ Systems & Process
There should be structured systems in place so you are never left wondering what to do next.
1️⃣2️⃣ Location Independence
If lifestyle flexibility matters, confirm the business can genuinely be operated from anywhere with a laptop and phone.
1️⃣3️⃣ Tax Considerations
Consider the tax advantages of operating as a business owner.
For example, are legitimate business-related travel expenses deductible?
1️⃣4️⃣ Track Record
Look for a company with a proven track record and established longevity.
1️⃣5️⃣ Automation
Much of the operational work should be supported by proprietary systems and automation.
1️⃣6️⃣ Social Proof
Look for authentic social proof.
Live podcasts or events where comments are visible in real time can provide transparency and credibility.
This CHECKLIST reflects the criteria I personally used when evaluating my own transition online.
